Dr. Owen Omo-Ojo is a medical administrator, entrepreneur, and a public health professional with over 12 years of experience in medicine and administration.
Her foundation is grounded in excellent education, from elementary level through post grad. She attended the prestigious Chrisland School for her nursery and primary education, after which at the tender age of 8, she moved to Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin city where she received her junior secondary school education and then Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls where she completed her senior secondary school education.
At the age of 14, she had a strong desire to study medicine in the United Kingdom, however, due to her young age, no UK university would admit her. Undaunted, she proceeded to the Houdegbe North American University, Benin Republic for Pre-Med, and a year after, to the renowned IP Pavlov State Medical University, St. Petersburg, Russia where she received a Doctor of Medicine degree.
Shortly after receiving her MD in 2011, Dr. Owen returned to Nigeria, applying herself exceptionally in clinical practice, before moving into the health management organization (HMO) space.
Akin to her sublime attitude of diligence, hard work and dedication, it comes as no surprise that she quickly rose to become a senior manager in the first few years of her journey through the HMO industry, applying herself in various departments of health insurance, which is where her passion for universal health coverage (UHC) was realized; this keen passion spurred her decision to attain a Master’s in Public Health at the University of Liverpool via the commonwealth scholarship commission.
In a bid to promote health advocacy for individuals and staff of corporate organizations & government institutions, through medical individual social responsibility (ISR) & corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, she founded HIGC Health Consultants in the year 2018.
As a young entrepreneur, Dr. Owen has distinguished herself in the health sector, being one of the few female medical doctors in Nigeria who is leading an organization that serves as a premier provider of healthcare administration solutions in Nigeria, with an elite list of clients spanning various sectors including but not limited to oil and gas, banking, hospitality, and agriculture.
Apart from universal health coverage, Dr. Owen is very passionate about mentorship, charity and giving back. She is a sponsor of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA), the Federation of Africa Medical Students Association (FAMSA), a mentor to hundreds of young medical students and doctors across Africa, with numerous awards to show for it.
Her entire life’s work has been fuelled by her strong desire to impact lives and improve healthcare administration in Nigeria, she continues to work tirelessly towards advocating for policies that underpin access to equitable quality healthcare.
Dr. Owen Omo-Ojo is a member of the Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association of Nigeria (COSFAN) and an active member of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN).
